Commenting on the performance for the year, V.Pertsev, Director General stated: "Despite 2009 being a difficult year for port operators due to the global downturn, overall volumes at the port didn't fall considerably, and in 2010 Commercial Port of Vladivostok showed improved performance". He also noted that currently the port is ready to dramatically change cargo flow structure in favor of containers. Development strategy envisages that by 2015 the port is expected to handle 650,000 TEU. However today's figures show that the port can reach such container handling volumes well in advance. Port's efforts encompass a number of project activities, including redevelopment of several cargo berths into dedicated container terminals. Currently the containers are being handled at berths Nos 14, 15, 16 and partly at berths Nos 3, 4. In 2011 after procurement of specialized cargo handling equipment and some preparation works being carried out, the handling of containers is slated to be carried out at berths Nos 9, 10 and 5 as well.
"In 2011 the port is expected to handle about 400,000 TEU. At the same time we'll continue to handle metal products, pulp, machinery and equipment, cargo destined to Northern areas, heavy lifts," underscored Director General of Commercial Port of Vladivostok.
